Ozempic vs Wegovy vs Mounjaro

February 22, 2026 · 6 min read

Three drugs, two molecules, one mass tort. Here is what actually distinguishes them — and why all three sit inside the same federal litigation.

Active ingredient

Ozempic and Wegovy contain semaglutide. Mounjaro (and Zepbound) contain tirzepatide. Semaglutide is a single GLP-1 receptor agonist. Tirzepatide hits both GLP-1 and GIP receptors and tends to produce more dramatic weight loss in clinical trials.

Approved use

Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes. Wegovy is approved for chronic weight management. Mounjaro is approved for type 2 diabetes; Zepbound (the same molecule) is approved for weight loss.

Manufacturer

Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus are all Novo Nordisk products. Mounjaro and Zepbound are Eli Lilly products. Both companies are defendants in MDL 3094.

Side-effect overlap

All four drugs share the GLP-1 class side effects: nausea, vomiting, gastroparesis, pancreatitis, ileus, gallbladder disease, and the rest. Tirzepatide may produce more profound gastric slowing in some patients; semaglutide has the most accumulated post-marketing safety data.

Lawsuit eligibility — the short version

If you took any GLP-1 drug for several months and were hospitalized or formally diagnosed with a qualifying injury, you may qualify regardless of which specific brand. Pharmacy records identify the exact product.
