What is NAION?
NAION is a sudden interruption of blood flow to the optic nerve. The classic presentation is painless, sudden loss of vision in one eye, often noticed on waking. There is no effective treatment, and most patients do not recover their vision.
The semaglutide link
Researchers at Harvard's Mass Eye and Ear published findings in JAMA Ophthalmology in mid-2024 showing dramatically elevated NAION risk in semaglutide users. The FDA is investigating; lawsuits allege the warning should be on the label now.
Do you qualify?
You may qualify if you experienced sudden, painless vision loss diagnosed as NAION while taking or shortly after taking Ozempic, Wegovy, or Rybelsus, and had no prior history of NAION in the affected eye.
