Active ingredient and dosing
Both drugs are weekly semaglutide injections made by Novo Nordisk. Ozempic is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes at doses up to 2.0 mg per week. Wegovy is approved for chronic weight management at higher doses up to 2.4 mg per week. The molecule is identical.
Side-effect overlap
Gastroparesis, pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction, ileus, gallbladder disease, NAION, and aspiration risk all appear in both drugs' adverse event reports. Wegovy's higher dose may carry higher rates of severe GI events.
Lawsuit eligibility
Patients on either drug are eligible to file in MDL 3094 if they have a qualifying injury. Pharmacy records that confirm which version you took are critical.
