Ozempic Ileus Lawsuit

Ileus — a temporary paralysis of the intestines — is a recognized GLP-1 side effect that the FDA added to Ozempic's label in 2023. If you were hospitalized for ileus while taking Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound, you may have a claim.

What ileus is and how it is diagnosed

Ileus is the loss of normal coordinated muscle activity in the intestines. Food, fluid, and gas stop moving forward — patients present with severe abdominal pain, distension, vomiting, and the inability to pass stool or gas. CT imaging typically shows dilated bowel loops without a mechanical blockage.

Treatment usually requires hospital admission, bowel rest, IV fluids, and nasogastric decompression. Severe or recurrent ileus can lead to surgery and long-term gastrointestinal dysfunction.

The GLP-1 connection

GLP-1 drugs slow gastric and intestinal motility by design. In September 2023 the FDA required Novo Nordisk to add ileus to the Ozempic label after post-marketing reports accumulated. Plaintiffs allege that warning came too late.

Who qualifies

You may qualify if you used a GLP-1 drug for at least a few months, were hospitalized for ileus or paralytic ileus, and had no prior history of the condition.
