Symptoms and emergency care
A bowel obstruction blocks the normal passage of food and fluid through the intestines. Symptoms include severe cramping abdominal pain, vomiting (including bile or fecal matter), abdominal distension, and the inability to pass stool or gas.
Diagnosis is typically made by CT scan. Treatment ranges from nasogastric decompression to bowel resection surgery, depending on severity.
Why GLP-1 drugs are implicated
GLP-1 drugs slow gastric and intestinal transit by design. In a subset of patients, this leads to mechanical or functional obstruction — sometimes weeks or months into therapy. Plaintiffs allege the original labels did not adequately warn of the risk.
Compensation
Surgical patients and those with chronic post-operative complications generally see higher case values. Claims may include past and future medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and punitive damages.
