How GLP-1 drugs cause kidney damage
The most common mechanism is volume depletion from repeated vomiting and reduced oral intake — both well-documented GLP-1 side effects. When the kidneys lose perfusion, acute tubular injury can follow. In published case reports, kidney function did not always fully recover.
Qualifying diagnoses
Documented AKI, acute renal failure, or new-onset chronic kidney disease following GLP-1 therapy may qualify. Hospital records showing elevated creatinine, oliguria, or dialysis are key evidence.
